The 2020 Initiative group in Tokyo University of the Arts’ (TUA) COI Site will organize a summer event which is becoming an annual event on the theme “flying beauty of Japan” this year. It will be a festival of general arts with elements of music, calligraphy, ikebana Japanese flower arrangement and technology. For details, including how to apply, please have a look on the pdf. The Research on robotics & performing arts group and Benesse Holdings, Inc., a COI member company as well as Osaka University joined forces to do a workshop for children “Let’s communicate with a robot through acting!” at Tokyo Roppongi Hills this summer. Based on the content rolled out in some elementary schools as a model curriculum, group leader Oryza Hirata himself comes to Roppongi Hills to conduct this lesson with a robot.

“Clone cultural property”, a proud product of TUA COI Site, is finally moving out of our Ueno campus and traveling to different exhibition sites. The first commemorative exhibition “Silk Road: a journey from Horyuji to Bamiyan” will take place from Friday 13 July at the Shimane Art Museum. The exhibition will end on Sunday 26 August. Please don’t miss it!

At the JST fair at Tokyo Big Sight, Tokyo University of the Arts (TUA) COI Site will exhibit its own booth showcasing recent research results. Please watch out for highly elaborate displays. This year, we will use an AI-based “score-following” technology installed on a piano, and there will be a futuristic concert involving animation, robot and a professional violinist. Please visit our booth!
