"Virtual Geidai" 2nd demonstration
Kohei UENO and PANDA Wind Orchestra concert
Delivered by “Performer’s view System”

Tokyo University of the Arts Center of Innovation (COI) actively engages in various art-related activities in the form "art x new normal" program.

"Virtual Geidai" 2nd demonstration was performed with the cooperation of Kawaguchiko Stellar Theater and Kohei Ueno.
Ueno is a Tokyo University of the Arts graduate saxophonist and concertmaster of the PANDA Wind Orchestra. Following the success of recording with 5 cameras, this time we made a big improvement by using 22 on-stage cameras to record the performance. As a result, the audience can enjoy high-quality live images and sound for each instrument. Moreover, each orchestra player's gestures, facial expressions, and technique can be clearly captured. For all those, it can be regarded as one of highly innovative performance.

The record of this concert is available in two types of tickets. The A ticket which used the previous 5 cameras recording and the S ticket (Performer’s view) which used the improved 22 cameras recording. Besides that, the audience is not only able to enjoy the concert performance but also the interior (foyer, etc.) and exterior Kawaguchiko Stellar Theater through virtual reality technology.

Performer’s view System: A system that allows the viewer to freely switch between all 27 angles installed in the orchestra on the stage while watching the performance.

◆ For future collaborative research: Impression measurement
In collaboration with the Tokyo Institute of Technology COI, we aim to visualize "whether the viewers are impressed" and reflect it in content production as an index for performance quality and concert evaluation. By recording the activities of the performer during the performance and the activities of the audience using wearable devices and videos, and scientifically analyzing the relationship between the two, we can grasp the emotional situation regarding the performance. Based on that, we will give feedback to the performers and event planners/producers.
