Young Researchers visited “Makers’ Base”

Many unique companies specializing in art and technology, including technology development, media, and advertising agencies, have joined the Tokyo University of the Arts’ (TUA) COI Site. Among them is the “Makers’ Base”, a workshop space/monozukuri factory, a unique company which is perfect for an arts University like TUA.

On 14 June, Research Assistants from the Research on culture sharing group, Yuko Aratono, and the Research on disabilities and expressions group, Aiko Komagome, visited Mr Junpei Matsuda at the Makers' Base to ask for suggestions and have a discussion on the content they are each trying to research and develop currently.

The company, which relocated last year, is in a very convenient location, only a few minutes' walk from Tokyo Metropolitan University Station on the Tokyu Toyoko Line. All kinds of tools and materials from printers, 3D printers, electric saws, pottery kilns to sewing machines, fill the building from B1 up to 4F, making it a free atelier/workshop space. On 1F, there is a shop where products made here can be displayed for sale, and it is also possible to order custom-made products. Two young researchers who visited the atelier, created images and ideas in their heads as they walked around touching each tool with excitement in their eyes.

After that, the young researchers engaged in a discussion with the Makers’ Base on the idea of developing content related to teaching materials in the future. The receptionist dog also joined the discussion enthusiastically. By exchanging business ideas, there may be new business opportunities in future.
